Founded by Steve Hsu, Summer Group is a Hong Kong-invested food corporation that integrates organic farming, food R&D, manufacturing and distribution.

Steve was born in 1933 in Shanghai in a family whose shipping history traces back to the middle of the 19^th century. After graduation with a master’s degree from the Kansas State University in 1959, Steve went back to Taiwan assisting his father with the family business. Since then, he pushed the Hong Kong-based Oak Maritime and Taiwan-listed Sincere Navigation to a new thriving era with global presence. With his third son Jack ready to take over the business, Steve retired to Canada where he tasted blueberry and endeavored to begin organic farming at the age of 75.

In 2007, Steve was shocked to see that nobody knew what blueberry was, not even in five-star hotels of Shanghai like Shangri-La or Hilton. “I have to grow it so that my country fellows can enjoy such a great fruit”. With a determined mind, Steve contacted Professor Li Yadong, a researcher of blueberries in Jilin Agricultural University. Under the recommendation of Professor Li, Steve chose Rushan, Shandong province at North 37°, to open an organic blueberry farm. Later on, Steve noticed another strange phenomenon: olive oil from the west became increasingly popular in China while the traditional Chinese camellia oil was hardly seen. Steve thus started to build the organic farm of camellia oil trees in Jiangxi province.

With a decade of efforts, Summer Group has successfully forged the brands including vaci, 安森氏、ginko and i-ginko etc. based on the two organic farms, with two product portfolios ranging from fresh & frozen organic blueberries, blueberry drinks, blueberry cakes, to camellia oil fruit, dried seeds, oil for cooking, oil for skin & hair care and soap etc.

Note: Summer Group is not incorporated but a internally used name for the five companies that Steven Hsu has registered in mainland China, including Summer Food & Beverage (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Rushan Blueberry Summer Fruits Co., Ltd., Rushan Shengsheng Bitotechnology Co., Ltd., Summer Agriculture Development (Jiangxi) Co., Ltd. And Rushan Ginko Trading Co., Ltd.

The Hsu’s family has been strictly following the core value in running all businesses and facing environmental changes with the spirit of development and innovation. In today’s world as the life rhythm continuously quickens, health has become the fundamental concern of the public. I have invested in the two organic farms and we have been relentlessly exploring and evolving since the very beginning.

“Promoting health in a peaceful era” is my very reason and ultimate purpose to start organic farming. In 2018, we launched vaci Healthy Living System, aiming to share healthy products and information and advocating a healthy and great life to shape people’s lifestyle.
